From the moment I walked into Prof. Murat Binbay’s office, I felt comfortable and confident in my care. Everything was very well organized, starting with promptly ordering a CT scan for my kidney stone. I was diagnosed with a staghorn kidney stone measuring 2.3 cm, which I knew was more complex and not ideal for shock wave lithotripsy. I live in the U.S. and work at a children’s hospital, so I am familiar with and generally trust the healthcare system there. However, my doctor in the U.S. had recommended shock wave lithotripsy, and I knew that procedure would not be the best option for a stone of this size. Prof. Binbay was very honest and thorough in explaining my options. He clearly told me that PNL would be the most appropriate treatment, but that he could first attempt URS, which would be less invasive—while also explaining that it might not be possible. He even encouraged me to seek another opinion if I wished and carefully explained the risks, including the possibility of bleeding since the kidney is accessed from the back. His transparency and professionalism gave me great confidence. I decided to proceed with him, and my surgery went smoothly—exactly as we had discussed. Prof. Binbay visited my room several times after the operation to check on me, which meant a lot. He was supported by excellent assistant doctors, a great anesthesiologist, and kind, attentive nurses. The care at Memorial Şişli Hospital was truly wonderful from start to finish.
